HIDDEN FORM /VISIBLE CONTENT (2002) (70 minutes w/ intermission) Those 2 pieces are co-dependent in their thematic exploration. They can be performed together or separately. With original score by Azores, Set Design/Art Direction by Thomas Sandblichler, costumes by Nicolas Petrou and lights by Lap -Chi Chu, a scenic landscape of long, billowing, sheer curtains with concealed entrances surround the white stage, creating a moody atmosphere for the workÕs eruptive kinetic action. HIDDEN FORM (2001) 20 minutes. premiered in July 2002 at American Dance Festival. The piece exposes our hidden phantoms and vulnerabilities, as it explores the transformative and empowering aspects of fear. VISIBLE CONTENT (2003) 40 Minutes, premiered in March 2003 at Dance Theater Workshop. Exploring another aspect of fear: the overwhelming amount of brain activity. POOR REALITY (2001) 55 minutes With costumes by Narciso Rodrigues and music composed by Dusty Trails, four dancers, identical in appearance, explore how the activity of gazing into our own reflection inflicts upon us simultaneous pleasure and pain. Hanging Plexiglas panels and a reflective floor create a mysterious and intricate maze through which the dancers must find their way. Infinitely reflected images bounce back and forth and refuse to solidify into one. These various reflections betray the dancers and they are ultimately unable to differentiate between self, other, and image. FATIADO (2003) 20 minutes Duet inspired by Plato's theory that at first there was a being with four hands, four legs and two faces. Because they were so strong, the gods decided to cut each of them in two. Since then each half has yearned for the half from which it was severed, longing to grow together again. I MUTANTES SERAS (1999) 55 minutes Four dancers inhabit the surreal landscapes created by the collages of Dutch Artist Sebastiaan Bremer. Music compiled by Paul Parreira, Costumes by Nicolas Petrou and the colorful lighting is by Lap-Chi Chu. I Mutantes Seras is a piece about Metamorphosis. In this environment, an evolutionary process takes place. Beings are created and others vanish. I Mutantes Seras traces the unsteady rhythm of this constant metamorphosis to better understand our existence as human beings. PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME (1998) 50 minutes Includes 5 dancers, music by Brazilian composer Mario Vaz de Mello and film by Phil Harder. It explores the most fundamental and timeless subject of all: LOVE. As in their previous works, ChameckiLerner is interested in the psychological state of a body. At this time, of a body in love. ANTONIO CAIDO (1996) 55 minutes Features 5 dancers, music by Vivian Trimble, set by Scott Pask and Jim Larkin, lighting by Stan Pressner and film by Lorenzo Shapiro. It's the story of Antonio, who "while walking in the street, falls in a hole and dies." The piece revolves around the different courses his life could have taken. The "what ifs" of everyone's destiny that remind us of the ambivalence of the human power against life/death HOMEMADE (1995) 60 minutes Multi-media work with film by Mexican-American filmaker Lorenzo Shapiro, set by Dutch visual artist Sebastiaan Bremer and music by American composer Antony Fine. This piece, featuring three performers/dancers, develops around the tension of defining home. Home, the eternal place one wants to be and the first place one wants to leave. |
